Basic Physician Training

All applications open 11 July - 15 August 2011

All basic physician training in Victoria is provided through a Consortia comprised of metropolitan and rural hospitals.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is part of the Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium, which includes rotations across Melbourne Health, Western Health, Ballarat Health Services, North East Health Wangaratta and Wodonga Regional Health Service. Successful applicants who are matched to The Royal Melbourne Hospital will be guaranteed at least two rotations at RMH.

The Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium offers a comprehensive program with all rotations accredited by the RACP and is focussed on candidates preparing for the written and clinical parts of the RACP examination.

For trainees intending on sitting the FRACP exams, informal study groups and attendance at the RACP lecture series (in person, via videoconference or online) are encouraged. For the written exam, 6-10 consultant-led tutorials per week run from November to January, and for the clinical exam 3-5 short cases sessions and 2 consultant long cases are organised each week from April to July. There are also a number of sessions hosted by specialty units with classic short cases, and a full trial exam program runs within the consortium.
